GO Buffalo Mom is a transportation navigation program helping pregnant women in Buffalo overcome barriers to prenatal care and improve birth outcomes for babies and families.
A dedicated Transportation Navigator works directly with expectant mothers to coordinate transportation to prenatal and medical appointments through bus passes or Medicaid cab services. The Navigator also helps clients learn how to independently navigate the Medicaid transportation system and connects families to additional resources when challenges such as housing instability, food insecurity, or domestic violence arise.

Why It Matters
Buffalo has the highest premature birth rate in New York State at 12.5%, with babies born to Black women disproportionately impacted. GO Buffalo Mom supports pregnant women ages 18–39 across targeted Buffalo zip codes with the goal of increasing healthy full-term births and early prenatal care.
Program Impact
Independent evaluations and program data demonstrate meaningful results:
- 100% of participating clients attended medical appointments in 2023–2024
- 72% initiated prenatal care during the first trimester
- 79–81% delivered full-term newborns
- A 2024 evaluation by D’Youville University found lower NICU admissions, lower rates of low birth weight, and fewer premature births among GO Buffalo Mom participants compared to non-participants
Making a Difference
From helping a developmentally disabled mother access consistent prenatal care to supporting a pregnant mother facing housing instability, domestic violence, and food insecurity, GO Buffalo Mom provides compassionate, coordinated support that helps mothers deliver healthier babies and build stronger futures for their families.
GO Buffalo Mom is supported in part by United Way of Buffalo & Erie County.
